    The Brussels-based collectors Herman Daled and Nicole Daled refuse to perceive art as decoration and to, thereby, exploit it. They approach art in a fundamentally different way: Basis for their activities are their relationships and conversations with artists.
    In keeping with the aim of Conceptual Art that places the intellectual content of a work above its realisation, they consider themselves not collectors but communicators and producers: They provide artists with the opportunity to also realise works outside of established market mechanisms. Their intense engagement with Conceptual Art, one of the most important movements in recent art history, goes far beyond usual collecting practices. This is not only apparent in the actual works, but also in the meticulously archived documents containing actions and works.
    One of the most important influences for Herman and Nicole Daled was Marcel Broodthaers, more than 80 of his works are in their collection. Moreover, the collection holds several works by Daniel Buren, Dan Graham, On Kawara, Sol Lewitt, Niele Toroni, Lawrence Weiner, Cy Twombly and many more.

    Ed Ruschas (*1937) ikonische Interpretationen der amerikanischen Gesellschaft machen ihn zu einem der wichtigsten Vertreter der amerikanischen Kunst des 20. Jahrhunderts. Seine Werke sind eng verknüpft mit kühl-eleganten Darstellungen von stilisierten Tankstellen, Leuchtreklame-Schildern und archetypischen Landschaften. Seit Beginn der 1960er-Jahre hat kaum jemand die Entwicklung der visuellen Kultur in und um L.A. so radikal wiedergegeben wie Ed Ruscha, der auch selbst dort lebt und arbeitet. Seine Motive sind inspiriert von dem Blick auf die Straße, von der Frontscheibe und der Kinoleinwand und geben so einen spürbaren Eindruck von dem großen, flachen Stadtraum mitten in der Wüste. Der bibliophile Ausstellungskatalog mit über 50 Werken aus der UBS Art Collection umfasst nicht nur die Zeit ab der 1960er-Jahre, sondern zeigt auch die technisch und grafisch neuen Ansätze in Ruschas Werk. Benannt nach einem von Ruschas »Wort-Bildern«, enthält die Publikation zudem einen Essay von George Condo sowie ein Interview mit dem Künstler, geführt von dem Kurator des Louisiana Museum of Modern Art.

  • Reinhard Grüner is a collector from Monaco. His passion is art books, which he collects – and sometimes exhibits – since the 1960s.
    His website, www.buchkunst.info is a real “online museum”, where international artist books are catalogued and photographed. Amongst the artists there are Marc Chagall, Anselm Kiefer, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso and Andy Warhol. Books, but also works of art made of images and text, created by the artist often in collaboration with a writer and a publisher. For the high artistic quality – original graphics, unique designs, paintings and collages – these works are different from the usual picture books. Their manifestations are multiple: books with graphic effects, objects-book, artist’s books, sometimes printed in offset or illustrated by works of artists.
    At the centre of Grüner’s attention there are Eastern German and Eastern European books (mainly Russia, Hungary, Lithuania). many of these works were created in response to specific social, political and cultural issues, with unimaginable insights into the culture of modernity.
    Reinhard first came in contact with the art in book form with the English Edition, printed privately, of “A Dissertation Upon Roast Pig”, printed in 1975 by Shoestring Press on paper of the legendary Chiswick Press: from here begins a life of a book maniac among thousands of books. As Grüner states in an essay, the acquisition of artist books is more than a simple purchase: the artist, the life as a collector and thoughts are tied together, they influence each other, and a network of contacts with other collectors begins. With nearly all the books in his collection Grüner forms a symbiotic relationship: each of them describes, explains, and gets to the heart of some chapters of his life.

  • Fondé en 1968 par le critique d’art Jorge Glusberg, le “Centro de Arte y Comunicación” (CAYC) fonctionna comme un lieu d’échange international entre artistes et intellectuels. Ce fut une organisation para-institutionnelle, cherchant une place pour l’art argentin dans l’espace latino-américain et sur la scène internationale. Il empruntait ses modes de fonctionnement et sa stratégie à l’avant-garde artistique de la seconde moitié du XX ème siècle.
    La première exposition organisée par le CAYC en 1969, fut “Arte y Cibernética“, mais c’est “Arte de Sistemas “ présentée en 1971 au Musée d’Art Moderne de Buenos-Aires qui posera les fondations de son futur développement. Cette exposition où figuraient de nombreux artistes internationaux, circula dans le monde entier en s’appuyant sur un réseau alternatif de centres d’art alors en activité dans les principales capitales d’Europe et d’Amérique.
    Malgré ses démêlés avec la junte militaire qui dirigeait l’Argentine, le CAYC organisa de nombreuses manifestations: expositions collectives et personnelles, rencontres internationales d’art vidéo, colloques, congrès et conférences dans le monde entier. Il édita également des livres d’artistes.

  • The International Society of Copier Artists (I.S.C.A) was a non-profit group founded by Louise Neaderland in 1981, intended to promote the work of copier artists and to advocate for the recognition of copier art as a legitimate form. The group is best known for producing The I.S.C.A Quarterly as well as for coordinating exhibitions of xerographic artwork, and the distribution of "The I.S.C.A Newsletter". Women made up the majority of society's membership.
    The I.S.C.A. Quarterly was published from 1982-2003. Typically, issues were produced in limited editions of 200 copies, with an average of 45 pages of original copier art supplied by I.S.C.A. members. Over the years the form of the Quarterly mutated from a collection of unbound pages to a spiral bound journal with an Annual Bookworks Edition composed of a box of books made by I.S.C.A. members. The work produced for the Quarterly ranged widely in focus from social and political issues to personal and emotional themes. The final issue (Volume 21, #4) was published in June 2003.

    When, just over twenty, I was assembling the first issue of the magazine Arte Postale!, joining with brass rings a dozen of sheets printed in one hundred copies on pink paper, I would never have imagined that thirty years later I would have been still busy putting together with scissors and glue the very same publication. Instead, this issue n. 100, intentionally produced in the homemade cut-and-paste style typical of mail art, even shares the musical theme with that first experiment, in which I already rubberstamped and glued leaflats on the pages or I stapled on them a piece of magnetic tape.

  • The New Art Practice was a term created for a generation of artists in the former Yugoslavia active in the late 1960s and throughout the 1970s. These artists shifted their practice to spaces outside the traditional studio, onto city streets, into artist-run spaces, and in multimedia performances and experimental publications. Focusing on artists working in the city of Zagreb, this exhibition documents aspects of this shift and highlights the ability of artists' publications to record these often ephemeral gestures and ideas. While artists such as Goran Trbuljak, Braco Dimitrijević, Sanja Iveković, Mladen Stilinović, and Vlado Martek, among others, worked in a variety of mediums, they shared a common impulse to produce publications. These artists questioned and played with ideas about the place of an artist within this particular political and socioeconomic context. Their work often involved public participation and blurred traditional notions of authorship through collective activities, chance operations, and the appropriation of language and imagery from the state and commercial media. The materials in this installation resonate with other contemporaneous scenes in Eastern and Central Europe and with broader international trends, while also providing an insight into very local networks of experimental artists and writers in Zagreb. All materials are drawn from the collection of the Museum of Modern Art Library.

  • BAU was founded in 2004 in Viareggio, on the coast of Tuscany, by a group of artists and individuals interested in the many-sided aspects of the culture of our times. Thanks to a widespread and constantly expanding network of contacts, every year the project takes the shape of an expressly designed UniA4 sized box: BAU container of contemporary culture. This non-profit box is produced in a limited edition of 150 copies (120 for issue 1 and 200 for issues 9-10) and contains original works, signed and numbered, from a large number of international contributors.
    The BAU container fits in the vast tradition of assembling publications and artists‘ magazines that developed since the early sixties. It intends to experiment with new languages, technologies and materials, operating in a peculiar dimension of group work that is open also to contributions from non-artists: outsiders, travellers, collectors of curiosities, creative gastronomers, anomalous scientists.
    In a relational and non competitive perspective that is responsive to the relationships between art and science, politics and environment, BAU acts as a meeting point in order to stimulate dialogues, interactions and exchanges among the most diverse disciplines: graphics, collage, photography and the visual arts in general, but also poetical and narrative researches, acoustic and performative experiences, documents pertaining the fields of fashion and design, etc. The operative network expresses itself also through the planning of exhibitions, meetings, festivals and events, organized in institutional spaces (libraries, galleries, museums) and in atypic locations.

For their AMJ, Seripop compiled years of original gig poster work, the first collection of its kind for the studio, which has made thousands of prints over the years.
    About Seripop: Yannick Desranleau and Chloe Lum are visual artists and musicians who started collaborating in 2002 under the nom de guerre Seripop. Based in Montreal, Seripop has earned international attention for its stylistically distinct, silkscreened street posters. In 2005, Lum and Desranleau began experimenting with sculptural print installations which merge notions of city politics and visual perception. The duo has been speaking and exhibiting their work at various art institutions including Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead, England, Peacock Visual Arts in Aberdeen, Scotland, and the University of North Texas, Denton, USA. In addition to Seripop, Lum and Desranleau play in AIDS Wolf, a noise-rock band and Hamborghinni, a drums and electronics project.

    Die Ausstellung umfasst rund 300 Exponate (Wand- und Raumobjekte, Skulpturen, Assemblagen, Grafiken, Multiples, Zeichnungen, Partituren, Textdokumente, Fotografien und Filme) aus den Jahren 1958 bis 2007. Die Ausstellung wird zudem von drei Installationen mitgeprägt: Die raumgreifendste ist ein Environment nach dem Happening „Umgraben“, 1970, von Wolf Vostell. Des Weiteren wurde nach Allan Kaprows Ansatz der „Re-invention“ sein schon 1986 im Museum am Ostwall realisiertes Activity-Environment „Frische Luft“ neu erfunden. Eine umfangreiche Diashow des Intermedia-Künstlers Dick Higgins präsentiert Bilder aus seiner Theater-Performance „Saint Joan at Beaurevoir – a ceremony through the flames“ von 1960.
    Die Ausstellung basiert insbesondere auf jüngsten Erwerbungen aus der Sammlung Feelisch, Remscheid, die mit Mitteln der Freunde des Museums Ostwall und der Stadt Dortmund angekauft wurden, sowie Werke aus der umfangreichen Dauerleihgabe der Düsseldorfer Sammlung Braun/ Lieff. Der Sammler und Verleger Wolfgang Feelisch ist dem MO seit Ende der 1960er Jahre bis heute eng verbunden und ermöglichte den Sammlungsschwerpunkt im Bereich Fluxus: durch bedeutende und kontinuierliche Schenkungen, wichtige Dauerleihgaben und temporäre Ausstellungen aus dem Bestand der Sammlung Feelisch.

    Das Museum Ostwall im Dortmunder U nimmt seine wichtigen Neuerwerbungen, Schenkungen und Dauerleihgaben aus dem Bereich Fluxus zum Anlass für zwei Publikationen, die die Sammlung Feelisch und die Sammlung Braun/Lieff präsentieren. Seit 1968 ist der Remscheider Sammler Wolfgang Feelisch dem Museum durch Ausstellungen seiner Sammlung, Dauerleihgaben, Ankäufe und Schenkungen verbunden. Im Jahre 2012 kamen weitere bedeutende Werke, Dokumente und Objekte des Fluxus aus der Sammlung Feelisch an das Museum. Neben diesen sind frühere Erwerbungen sowie aktuelle Schenkungen und Dauerleihgaben Feelischs in der Sammlung vorhanden, darunter Arbeiten von Joseph Beuys, Allan Kaprow und Robert Filliou. Aus dem Nachlass des 2009 verstorbenen Sammlers Hermann Braun, der sich seit 1972 intensiv mit Fluxus befasste, kamen viele Werke und Dokumente als Dauerleihgabe in das Museum Ostwall. Mit den Werken aus dieser Sammlung sind nun auch viele US-amerikanische Künstler des Fluxus vertreten, wie Robert Watts, George Brecht und Dick Higgins.

    Fengel lives and works in his hometown, where he visited the Bavarian state institute of photography from 1986 to 1988. After that he lived in New York until 1991. In addition to regular illustrations and illustrations for well-established newspapers and magazines, such as ZEITmagazin and Vice, numerous national and international exhibitions took place. Fennel’s work is in the collection of the Munich Pinakothek der Moderne, the Städtische Galerie in the Lenbachhaus, the DEKA-Bank, the Fotomuseum Munich, the Museum of Modern Art in Frankfurt am Main and the Munich Re. Fengel also works as a filmmaker and shoots videos for DJ Hell. Together with Jörg Koopmann, he runs the “glossy” photo forum in Munich, which Koopmann founded together with Marek Vogel in 1997. In 2000, he founded the award-winning agency Herburg Weiland with Judith Grubinger and Tom Ising.

    Das aussprechen, was viele sich nicht zu sagen trauen. Dort zuhören, wo manche gern weghören würden. Zur Jahresausstellung 2020 werden wir laut: Aus einem anfänglich leisen Summen erheben sich verschiedene Stimmen der Akademie und erzählen von den Herausforderungen und Chancen unserer Institution. Mal geflüstert, mal gebrüllt, mal im Kollektiv und mal ganz allein berichten sie von Partys und von Bürokratie, von der Lust am Schaffen und dem Druck, dem Kunstmarkt zu genügen. In einer Kakophonie der Ideen adressieren die Sprecher*innen Fragen nach Sicherheit, Patriarchat und Hierarchie und rufen Wünsche für eine Akademie der Zukunft in die Welt hinaus – immer mit einem Ziel: den Frieden beschädigen, damit der Frieden gewahrt bleibt. Dissens suchen, damit Konsens entstehen kann.
    Das Material für diesen Versuch haben wir in Interviews gesammelt, die wir mit Mitgliedern der Akademie geführt haben: Mit Studierenden haben wir gesprochen, mit Profs und wissenschaftlichen Mitarbeiter*innen, dem Hauspersonal und der Verwaltung. Aus ihren Geschichten ist ein semi-dokumentarischer, poetisch verdichteter Rundgang entstanden, der ein Licht auf jene Orte wirft, die wir allzu leicht übersehen: Es tönt aus dem Gulli und aus Fenstern, in Bäumen und an Eingangstoren.

    Im Vorfeld der documenta fifteen (18.06.–25.09.2022) gibt der Kunsttempel durch einen Aufruf endlich allen Menschen die Möglichkeit, als Künstlerin bzw. Künstler in einer Ausstellung vertreten zu sein. Für die Teilnahme an der Ausstellung „documenta ist wie“ muss jeweils hier auf kunsttempel.net in einem kleinen sprachlichen Vergleich nach dem Muster „Liebe ist wie …“ formuliert werden, wie die documenta ist.
    Mit diesem Text wird eine Künstliche Intelligenz gefüttert, die darauf trainiert ist, aus einem Text ein Bild zu erzeugen. Das so entstandene Kunstwerk wird während der Ausstellungszeit ganztägig und exklusiv im Kunsttempel präsentiert und kann nur dort angesehen werden. Die Teilnahme ist während der gesamten Laufzeit der Ausstellung möglich. Die Bilder dieser von Friedrich W. Block und Leslie P. Zimmermann kuratierten Ausstellung sind an der frischen Luft von außen durch die Fenster des Kunsttempels zu betrachten.
    Nach dem Ende der Präsentation im Kunsttempel entsteht aus den Beiträgen eine digital art collection. Die Bilder dieser Sammlung können im Rahmen einer Benefiz-Aktion hier auf kunsttempel.net als digitale Unikate bzw. NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) erworben werden. Damit besitzt man das digitale Kunstwerk allein. Der Verkauf beginnt am letzten Tag der Ausstellung, also am 30.4.2022. Der Verkaufserlös kommt Künstlerinnen und Künstlern in Not zugute.
